WHAT IS A EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE (ERM)?

Epiretinal membrane is a thin layer of clear scar tissue that grows over the retina surface. They can occur spontaneously over time or be related to several different eye conditions.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE?

Epiretinal membrane causes blurry vision and distortion of vision. Patients may notice difficulty reading and problems focusing.

ARE THERE TREATMENTS FOR EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE?

Epiretinal membranes can be treated with outpatient surgery. The majority of patients will experience vision improvement after elective surgery. Your retina doctor will provide a comprehensive examination and discuss treatment options with you during your visit.

CAN EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE GROW BACK AFTER SURGERY?

Epiretinal membrane rarely grow back after surgery. In 90% of cases surgery results in improvement in symptoms. During your comprehensive visit your retina doctor will discuss options for treatment and whether you are a good candidate for surgery.
